Easy Baked Beans From Dried Beans

Yield: 8-10 Servings

A delicious home-style baked bean recipe using dried beans, onion, green pepper, bacon and molasses.

Ingredients

To Soak Dry Beans

  • 1 Cup Dry Navy Beans, Rinsed
  • 1 Cup Dry Butter Beans, Rinsed
  • 4 Cups Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda

Cook the Dry Soaked Beans

  • Drained Soaked Beans
  • 4 Cups Water
  • Instant Pot

Baked Bean Sauce

  • 2 tsp. Salt
  • 2 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Dry Mustard Powder
  • 1 1/2 Cup Water
  • 3 Tbsp. Tomato Paste
  • 2 Tbsp. Molasses
  • 1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar or Coconut Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Green Pepper, Diced
  • 1/2 Cup Onion, Diced
  • 6 Bacon Slices, Diced

Instructions

  1. Soak beans overnight by placing dry Navy Beans and Butter Beans in a large stock pot. Add 4 Cups of water and 1 Tablespoon of Baking Soda and stir. Place lid on top and set aside to soak until morning.
  2. Cook the dry soaked beans. Drain beans in colander and then place beans in an instant pot and cover with 4 Cups of water.
  3. Cook the beans in a 6 Quart Instant Pot. Place beans and water in the inner pot of a Instant Pot. Inspect ring on inner lid of instant pot to make sure it is in place then place lid on Instant Pot and close valve to "seal." Cook on High Pressure for 6 Minutes. Allow pressure to naturally release which will take about 15-30 minutes. While waiting for pressure to release, it's time to prepare the sauce.
  4. Prepare the sauce: Using a 4-6 Quart Sauté Pan or Cast Iron Skillet, turn burner to medium heat and begin to cook the diced bacon. Cook until almost fully crisp then add the diced Onion and diced Green Pepper into the same pan with the bacon and bacon grease. Sauté until tender.
  5. In a medium mixing bowl, add Salt, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Dry Mustard and Water. Whisk together to blend then whisk in the tomato paste, molasses, apple cider vinegar and brown sugar or coconut sugar. Allow to sit for 5 minutes to dissolve the sugar.
  6. Combine all the ingredients: Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the bacon, onion and green pepper. Bring to a low boil then turn down to medium low and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Make sure the Instant pot has fully released all the pressure before opening the lid. Then add the beans to a colander to drain the excess water from the beans.
  8. Gently mix beans into the sauce mixture and stir to combine.
  9. Allow mixture to simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes for flavors to incorporate then serve.
  10. Enjoy!

Step-by-Step Instructions To Make Easy Baked Beans From Dried Beans

Soak the beans-

Make sure the Instant pot has fully released all the pressure before opening the lid. Then drain beans into a colander to remove excess water from the beans. Gently mix cooked beans into the sauce mixture and stir to combine. Allow mixture to simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes for flavors to incorporate before serving.
