Ingredients

- 1/4 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp Ground Cardamom
- 1/8 tsp Vanilla Bean Powder or 1/2 tsp Real Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Gather a small saucepan, maple syrup, water, ground cinnamon, ground cardamom, and vanilla bean powder.
- In a small saucepan, whisk together 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup pure maple syrup, 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ground cardamom, and 1/8 tsp vanilla bean powder.
- Heat ingredients on medium-medium high heat and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, continue to simmer for 5 minutes. Stir syrup occasionally.
- After you have simmered it, remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled, pour into a pint jar and refrigerate until use. The syrup will thicken slightly as it cools.
- Stir before using. We have found that using 2 Tbsp of syrup per normal size cup of coffee is the perfect amount of syrup. Depending on your preferences, you may need more or less.
- Syrup stores well in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
The best homemade coffee syrup!
We love our coffee around here. While most of the time we drink our coffee black with a little milk or cream, it’s always fun to jazz it up a bit. Heavy store-bought syrups are often unhealthy so we usually reach for a little maple syrup or our favoriteVanilla Coffee Creamer. Sometimes we will put a Homemade Marshmallow without Corn Syrup on top!
Earlier this fall though I went to a local coffee shop where the owners made their own simple syrup. I usually don’t get syrups at the coffee shop but this one caught my eye! It was sweetened with maple syrup and delicious spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and vanilla bean. Swoon! I tried it and was in love! And I may have gone back a few too many times.
I was so in love with the flavor, I had to recreate this recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Key features in this recipe:
- Sweetened with real maple syrup, this recipe has delicious maple flavor and is a much healthier option.
- The cinnamon in this syrup pairs so well with coffee and actually enhances the coffee flavor.
- I added cardamom to this simple syrup and you wouldn’t believe how much flavor it adds. Cardamom brightens the heaviness of the maple and cinnamon with an almost citrus spice.
- While you can use real vanilla extract in this recipe, I chose to use vanilla bean powder instead. It gives this syrup a rich and creamy flavor.
- BONUS: when you simmer this simple syrup on the stove it will make your house smell amazing!
