The best homemade coffee syrup!

We love our coffee around here. While most of the time we drink our coffee black with a little milk or cream, it’s always fun to jazz it up a bit. Heavy store-bought syrups are often unhealthy so we usually reach for a little maple syrup or our favoriteVanilla Coffee Creamer. Sometimes we will put a Homemade Marshmallow without Corn Syrup on top!

Earlier this fall though I went to a local coffee shop where the owners made their own simple syrup. I usually don’t get syrups at the coffee shop but this one caught my eye! It was sweetened with maple syrup and delicious spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and vanilla bean. Swoon! I tried it and was in love! And I may have gone back a few too many times.

I was so in love with the flavor, I had to recreate this recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Key features in this recipe:

  • Sweetened with real maple syrup, this recipe has delicious maple flavor and is a much healthier option.
  • The cinnamon in this syrup pairs so well with coffee and actually enhances the coffee flavor.
  • I added cardamom to this simple syrup and you wouldn’t believe how much flavor it adds. Cardamom brightens the heaviness of the maple and cinnamon with an almost citrus spice.
  • While you can use real vanilla extract in this recipe, I chose to use vanilla bean powder instead. It gives this syrup a rich and creamy flavor.
  • BONUS: when you simmer this simple syrup on the stove it will make your house smell amazing!
