German Pancakes
German Pancakes also called Dutch Baby Pancakes are an easy way to serve pancakes in the morning. Loaded with eggs and milk, they are packed with protein for a nutritious way to jumpstart your day.

German Pancakes
German Pancakes are super easy to make and taste amazing. When you don't have time to cook pancakes individually this recipe is a great alternative to whip up and pour into a 9x13 pan to bake in the oven.
Ingredients
- 6 Eggs
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1 tsp. Real Vanilla Extract
- 1 Cup Whole Milk
- Dash of Salt
- 5 Tbsp Butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Add 5 tablespoons of butter into a 9x13 baking dish, set aside
- Crack 6 eggs into a large bowl and whisk lightly, add 1 tsp. real vanilla extract, dash of salt, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup milk and whisk together well.
- Next add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of milk and mix thoroughly, set aside.
- Place the 9x13 pan with 5 tablespoons of butter into the oven and melt until the butter bubbles slightly, this usually takes around 3-4 minutes.
- Take the buttered pan out of oven carefully and immediately pour the German Pancake mixture into the hot butter. You want to make sure that you pour the pancake mixture into the middle of the butter so that you see the butter surrounding the pancake mixture. This ensures that your German Pancake grows properly in the pan. Do not stir it around.
- Bake pancake approx. 25 minutes.
- Turn on the oven light and watch this German Pancake grow into a large pancake. This is the part your kids and grandkids will love!
- Remove from the oven once the edges are brown and the center is solid and puffy.
- Serve immediately with maple syrup and powdered sugar.

We love to make this recipe ahead of time and reheat it the following morning. This recipe works perfect for a make ahead breakfast on busy mornings!

- Pure Vanilla Extract
- Unbleached Flour
- Salt

Step-by-Step instructions for making German Pancakes
It is time to mix all of the ingredients together into one large bowl. This only takes a few minutes to do and you will have an amazing breakfast ready in no time at all.
- Whisk together the flour, milk, eggs, vanilla and salt then set aside
- Place 5 tablespoons of butter in a 9×13 baking pan. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Once oven has preheated, place the baking pan in the oven for the butter to melt. Watch closely, you will want the butter melted and bubbly but it will burn quickly if you are not careful. This usually takes around 3-4 minutes.
- Once the butter is melted and bubbling slightly, remove from the oven.
- Pour the German Pancake batter immediately into the hot, melted butter. Make sure to pour your pancake batter into the middle of the pan so that the melted butter is surrounding the batter. This ensures that your pancake rises correctly. Do not stir this.
- Return to the oven and bake for 25 minutes. Give the pancakes a few minutes in the oven for the batter to begin baking and then watch how it grows into one huge pancake. Have the kids watch through the glass door with the oven light on. (remind them of oven safety and that the oven is hot!)

Why does our family make these pancakes so often….
This is an easy way to enjoy pancakes any day of the week but especially on the weekend. It is a warm and cozy comfort food our family looks forward to. Be creative in how you serve up your pancakes. On simple days choose your favorite syrup with powdered sugar and on the days where you have a little more time add fruit and some whipped cream. These pancakes are versatile and they make breakfast a little more fun. It will definitely hit the spot with a cup of hot coffee. If by chance you have leftovers, simply cut into serving size pieces and store in the refrigerator. Rewarm throughout the week for an easy breakfast. We make it a hearty workday breakfast by adding a side of sausage along with a scramble or a soft boiled egg. Enjoy!
